San Pedro Del Pinatar is one of the main tourist destinations on the Murcia coast, having during the past few
years become one of the most sought after locations to live or own a holiday home for many Spanish and English
families on the Costa Calida.
For holiday makers, the main attraction of San Pedro Del Pinatar has to be its glorious, safe and clean
beaches.
Lo Pagan is a lively tourist area with hotels, bars, shops, restaurants and even a fun fair during the spring
and summer months.
The natural, hot mud baths of San Pedro Del Pinatar are world famous for their healing properties and for those
who prefer not to cover themselves in it in public, there is a super new spa centre within walking distance, where
you can spend a day or more pampering yourself and relaxing in the various pools.
The Salinas de San Pedro Del Pinatar is a regional park where many species of migratory birds come to nest.
The Mar Menor is the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe, covering 170 sqm, yet having a maximum depth of just 7
metres.
Traditionally, San Pedro Del Pinatar was an agricultural and seafaring centre and is now one of the principal
towns of the Costa Calida.
Golf enthusiasts are also well catered for, with many golf courses nearby, including the world famous La Manga
Club.
Murcia (San Javier) airport is less than 15 minutes away by car and is well served by all of the low
cost budget airlines including Easy Jet, Monarch, FlyBe, Jet2 and others from most UK airports, so you could be door to door with just a few
short hours.
New Land Train For San Pedro Del Pinatar
The Land Train At Night
Part of the continued investment in the San Pedro Del Pinatar area sees a
brand new land train
that runs regularly between 7am and 1am from opposite Amigos Bar (50 yards
away from the apartment) to the beach at Lo Pagan, via San Pedro Del Pinatar town.
This low cost transport system is a welcome addition to the already excellent facilities in
the area and is recognition of this area's constant improvement programme designed to attract more
tourism.
We took a trip on the land train and for a family of 5 it cost €17 - this was for a return trip, so
it really is good value for money. It's also an extremely welcome sight when you're returning from the beach or
town late at night with kids in tow!
New Local Bus
Service
Public transport links to all parts of Murcia from San Pedro Del Pinatar is excellent. The bus
station is just 10 minutes walk from the apartment, as well as a number of very well sign-posted bus stops showing
the stops along the way to your destination.
Summer 2008 saw the introduction of a local bus shuttle. The local bus is a little larger than
a mini-bus, probably seating no more than 30 people. It stops outside Jacks & Sons supermarket and runs
regularly between San Pedro Del Pinatar and Santiago de la Ribera, the next resort along.
The local bus visits the town centres of both resorts and is really handy on market days, when car
parking might be a little tight and you don't fancy a long walk in the blazing sun.
We haven't tried the bus service ourselves, but the neighbours are very happy with it and say that
it's becoming very popular with the locals now.
Free
Bicycles
New in 2009 is the introduction of a free bicycle scheme. Simply register your details at the
local town hall (1st floor) and you'll be able to collect your bike from one of the various self-service
stations that are available throughout San Pedro Del Pinatar.
Each of the parking bays has it's own unique reference number and once you've registered, you
simply send a text message from your mobile phone to a special number and you will be able to release the bike from
the parking bay and use it all day.
If you wish to leave it somewhere other than your pick-up point, you can, as there are parking
facilities throughout San Pedro Del Pinatar.
This is a rental station situated just a few hundred yards of the apartment!
